NEW DELHI: The Kerala state authorities has determined to not implement the modification to the Kerala Police Act following opposition from varied teams on the bottom that it will curtail freedom of expression.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that within the view of the severa opposition to the modification, the federal government has determined to not go forward with the proposed modification.
“With the announcement of the modification, completely different views arose from completely different quarters. Issues have been expressed by those that supported LDF & those that stood for cover of democracy. On this state of affairs, it is not supposed to amend the legislation,” Vijayan stated.
The chief minister stated {that a} detailed dialogue can be held in meeting on this challenge.
“Detailed discussions on this regard can be held within the Meeting and additional steps can be taken on this regard after listening to the views of all events,” he stated.
The state cupboard, final month, had determined to present extra tooth to the Police Act by recommending the addition of Part 118-A. On Saturday, Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan signed the Kerala Police Act Modification ordinance.
The amended act landed in controversy quickly after it was signed by Khan. The opposition alleged that it will give extra energy to the police and may be an instrument in suppressing freedom of the press.
